On September 21, 2024, Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) celebrated a significant milestone by delivering their 400th specially adapted custom home to Marine Lance Corporal Alberto Flores Jr. and his family in New Braunfels, Texas, as part of their 20th anniversary of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives.

COREtec Nicola Oak is featured throughout the Flores’ new home.

Alberto was severely injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Iraq, resulting in the amputation of his right leg above the knee. Alberto and his wife, Elvira, whom he met in the eighth grade, have been married for over twenty-five years and call their donated home with more than 40 special adaptations “a priceless gift.”

COREtec Cares About Building Healthy, Supportive Homes

COREtec cares about the impact our products have on individuals and families. We strive to build healthy, supportive homes – one waterproof, kidproof, petproof floor at a time.

“We’re honored to partner with Homes For Our Troops, and we applaud their support and empowerment of Veterans across the country,” shares COREtec marketing director Maud Swalens.

The Flores family celebrates the first day in their new home.

We believe our floors provide the durability, comfort and ease of maintenance that busy, modern families need, and we design our floors to support the wellbeing of all people – and all their needs – in the home. Knowing we get to play a small part in HFOT’s mission is both humbling and rewarding beyond measure."

COREtec By The Numbers

  • Our partnership with HFOT began in 2019.
  • 96 HFOT specially adapted custom homes feature COREtec floors – and that number is ever-growing!
  • That’s approximately 268,800 square feet – for reference, you could park about 896 school buses in that space.
  • The most important stat (and our “why”): nearly 300* Veterans’ – and their families’ – daily lives have been improved.

*This number is estimated and likely conservative. We determined it by assuming an average of 3 people per HFOT home featuring COREtec floors.

I can’t say enough about Shaw’s Coretec flooring. The look of real wood is stunning throughout the house. The floors are so easy to keep clean and not slick. Having a prosthetic, this is SO important! The transitions are all seamless and getting around in a wheelchair is super easy. Amazing flooring that adds to the adaptability of these amazing homes!”

Having their flooring is amazing. I can smoothly glide on their flooring with ease when I’m in my wheelchair because at the end of the day the last thing I want to do is fight myself. Another positive side effect is the ease of cleaning. All dirt and stains wipe away quickly which equates to me standing up less on my prosthetic which is a huge blessing!”

HFOT Celebrates 20 Years Of “Missions Accomplished”

This year, Homes For Our Troops celebrates its 20th anniversary of Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives. What began in 2004 as an offer from a Massachusetts general contractor to build a home for a severely injured, post-9/11 soldier has now – twenty years later – evolved into the Homes For Our Troops of today, a thriving, four-star rated, national charity with over 65 employees.
